BILLY DICROSTA( Artistic Director/ Master Vocal Coach)
International Vocal Artist and Master Vocal Coach Billy DiCrosta has been performing professionally for over 30 years. The youngest of a large Italian American family of six. Billy started performing at the early age of 7 and fell in love with being on stage and touching people's hearts through music. He majored in Vocal Performance and Acting at Western CT State University until transferring to The Hartt School of Music to study Musical Theatre.

He has had the joy of playing such roles as Tony in West Side Story , Mike in A Chorus Line , The Baker in Into The Woods and many more. He also had the great honor of singing at The White House for the Clinton Family in 1997. While on tour From 2006 to 2012 Billy started to coach his cast members and develop his passion for helping others find vocal freedom. During this time he started to lay the foundations of the method he teaches today.

In 2013 he opened the doors to Billy DiCrosta Vocal Studio and became the only Accredited Teacher by International Voice Teachers of Mix Our Camp Website Link: www.ivtom.org in Connecticut. He is also the North Eastern Area Administrator for IVTOM and helps to educate new teachers on Mix Technique. He is a proud member of National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc. Billy has spent countless hours of taking what he has learned from his past teachers, IVTOM, and Leading Voice Scientists around the world to develop his unique method. Billy is one of the most sought after Vocal Coach's in the North East. Students travel from all over to study his technique and to find the vocal freedom that can only be found in his studio. Those who can't travel enjoy lessons via Skype/Facetime. His students range from beginners to professionals and children to adults. Students have found that in just one lesson ,they have learned more and found more freedom in their voice then they have after studying with their former teachers for years. Even those students who never thought they could sing learn that with Billy if you can speak you CAN sing !

Billy is known for his unique teaching approach and the ability to feel exactly what is going on in students voice that is causing the problem and giving the correct exercise to fix it. Students learn to have fun while training . Thanks to the vocal freedom his students achieve they are able to get leading roles in shows, win competition, get accepted to top universities and work as professional vocalists. Due to the rapid growth of his studio and his drive for always being the best, Billy has founded New Haven Academy of Performing Arts. Refusing to turn away any student who wants to learn his method he needed a way to make sure that could happen. Billy is proud to have personally trained and certified his staff of vocal coaches in his method so that everyone could learn. Just like Billy his coaches are available in person and online.

NEIL FUENTES ( Co-Artistic Director/ Senior Vocal Coach /Acting Coach)
Neil’s passion for the entertainment industry began at a young age. He attended a performing arts school in Venezuela, giving him the acting, singing and dancing chops you now see on television and stage today.

Upon arriving in the United States in 1995 Neil began an 18- year career working his way up the hospitality ladder to become the Director of Catering for the popular multi-unit brew house and restaurant, Southport Brewing Company. Neil put his food and entertainment talents together, creating impressive events, innovative menus, and a flare for the theatrical. In 2006 Neil joined the Connecticut Gay Men's Chorus and continues to perform throughout the state.

In 2012 Neil joins Sonido Libre, a 12 piece Salsa Band as lead singer. Neil develops an amazing show with this band which has been performing since then through the Tri-State Area.

Neil has solidified himself as a Connecticut power talent in both the entertainment and culinary world. “The Sensational Singing Chef”, airing on Connecticut Style on WTNH Television in New Haven, CT since 2009, continues to be a highly rated show for the network, garnering numerous awards and a cult-like following. Neil just became a Food Network Champion on the show REWRAPPED!

Neil has been trained and mentored by Master Vocal Billy DiCrosta to teach the NHAOPA singing method and is also an Accredited Mix Technique Teacher through International Voice Teachers of Mix.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Hazen is a child-centered community. We focus on each individual and teach skills that kids will use forever. Whether it’s learning a new activity, making friends or becoming more resilient, independent and understanding,we know that campers return home inspired to live in a way that will make them proud.
We're a place where people connect and truly belong.

There is no better feeling than that of coming home from camp having had the experience of a lifetime. Year after year campers leave Camp Hazen having found their best friends. And each summer, the joy of reuniting with counselors and old friends is one of life's greatest rewards. Kids simply love Camp Hazen, and whether it is their first time or they are a lifelong Hazenite, campers find that they belong here more than any other place in the world.

Camp Hazen has more than 90 years of making summers memorable for kids. One of the reasons for this long-term success is the firm belief in maintaining the traditions and values that make campers want to come back year after year. Campfires, ceremonies, singing, camping out under the stars, small cabin groups and a family-like community are as important as helping kids develop their character and confidence.

Camp Hazen YMCA is both licensed by the state of Connecticut and accredited by the American Camp Association.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The LEA program is for teens entering the 11th and 12th grade. The program has a limited number of spots that are decided by an application and interview process with the camp directors.

By participating in the LEA Program, participants will have a full three weeks of leadership workshops, teambuilding, belay training, working together as a group, planning activities, participating in camp program areas and contributing to the camp community. An optional fourth week is dedicated to obtaining an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Realizing that families have differing abilities to pay, Camp Hazen YMCA has instituted a voluntary 4-tier pricing program for our Summer Resident Camp and Day Camp programs. All children will have the same experience no matter which tier a family is able to pay. The tier selected by a family will be kept confidential.

Tier 1
is based on the full cost of campers participating in the selected programs. If you are able to pay this amount, please do so. Thank you.

Tier 2
is a partially subsidized rate that will enable families that just can't afford the full cost of the camp program. Please, choose this rate if your family has the need to receive a subsidized rate.

Tier 3
is a more heavily subsidized rate for families whose children would not be able to attend camp otherwise. If you can not afford either of the higher rates, please pay this amount.

Tier 4
is a variable rate for families whose financial assistance need is greater than the subsidized rates above. We provide more significant financial assistance to families that demonstrate need through our Financial Assistance Program. If you need additional assistance, please choose this option and complete a Financial Assistance application.

Meet Our Staff

Billy DiCrosta(Artistic Director/Master Vocal Coach)
International Vocal Artist and Coach Billy DiCrosta has been performing professionally for over 28 years. The youngest of a large Italian American family of six. Billy started performing at the early age of 7 and fell in love with being on stage and touching people's hearts through music. He majored in Vocal Performance and Acting at Western CT State University until transferring to The Hartt School of Music to study Musical Theatre.

He has had the joy of playing such roles as Tony in West Side Story, Mike in A Chorus Line, The Baker in Into The Woods and many more.

Even those who students who never thought they could sing learn that with Billy if you can speak you CAN sing !

Billy is known for his unique teaching approach and the ability to feel exactly what is going on in students voice that is causing the problem and giving the correct exercise to fix it. Students learn to have fun while training . Thanks to the vocal freedom his students achieve they are able to get leading roles in shows, win competitions and work as professional vocalists. Due to the rapid growth of his studio and his drive for always being the best Billy has founded New Haven Academy of Performing Arts. Refusing to be able to teach every student who wants to learn his method he needed a way to make sure that could happen. Billy is proud to have personally trained and certified his staff of vocal coaches in his method so that everyone could learn. Just like Billy his coaches are available in person and online.

Miss Gina Helland (Dance)
started dancing at the age of two at Theresa Signores School of Dance, and at the age of four began her training with Dorothy Malavasi. She has studied Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acrobatics, and Lyrical. Gina was fortunate to have studied under his direction for over 20 years.

Gina's credits include performances on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, Dorothy in The North East Tour of "The Wizard of Oz". She was a featured dance soloist in various musicals such as "Funny Girl" and "Dames at Sea". Gina has also performed as a lead dancer in the Pocono Mts. At Mt. Air Lodge, Tamnament Resort and aboard Cost Riviera Cruise Ship.

Neil Fuentes( Drama/Voice)

Neil’s passion for the entertainment industry began at a young age. He attended a performing arts school in Venezuela, giving him the acting, singing and dancing chops you now see on television and stage today.

Upon arriving in the United States in 1995 Neil began a 18- year career working his way up the hospitality ladder to become the Director of Catering for the popular multi-unit brew house and restaurant, Southport Brewing Company.

Many of our oldest campers eagerly stay on, often becoming the next generation of kid-loving counselors. But NEST is not just counselor training, so we welcome all who seek a very educational and motivational program. NEST (Nurturing Experiences for Staff Trainees) — • 2-year progressive experiential education course • Develops natural leadership qualities by teaching basic camp leadership skills • Creates well-rounded, thoughtful, caring and competent staff members with a broad range of human relation skills, outdoor education techniques, sports, games and camp programming ideas. • Benefits young people regardless of their interest in camp counseling.

While not a prerequisite or a promise, most of our current staff members are graduates of this course. Eagle Phase • Campers entering ninth grade in the fall after camp • 4-week program taken in either sessions 1-2 or sessions 3-4 • Course components led by our Camp Director, Aquatics Director, Ropes Course facilitators and other key camp staff • Coordinated by a specially trained counselor who acts as the Group Leader • Enrollment limited on a first-come, first-served basis by registering with the standard summer camp registration form. If taken in the first half of the summer, successful participants may return for one or two more sessions as Junior Staff Trainees (JST’s). These young people are placed with camper groups to gain experience alongside regular staff.

If the Eagle Phase of the program is taken in the second half of the summer, campers may attend our regular camp program as Hawks (our oldest camper group) for all or part of the first two sessions. Junior Counselor Phase • Second summer of the program • Open to graduates of the Eagle Phase who are entering tenth grade in the fall • Junior Counselor candidates apply for a limited number of positions and attend at a special camp fee • Junior Counselors enroll for any number of sessions with a special Junior Counselor Application and Registration Packet and camp fee • JC’s attend certain pre-camp meetings in Mid-June along with our regular staff (dates TBA) • Rotated among different camper groups and specialty areas throughout the summer for a variety of experiences with different aged campers and activities • JCs receive additional in-service training, evaluation and mentoring throughout the summer from their special advisor and others in our camp leadership.

Eagle Phase enrollees need to complete only the regular Summer Camp Registration Form. Junior Counselor enrollees need to complete both the Junior Counselor Application and the Summer Camp Registration Forms. Call the camp at 860-423-1375 with questions or to enroll by phone.

That commitment has created the addition of: • group picnics and outings • pool memberships • our challenge course Any given weekend can include: • a wedding or reunion • a corporate teambuilding event • a lot of family bonding around our pool. During spring and autumn, we can handle groups any day of the week.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: he position of C.I.T. at Winding Trails Summer Day Camp is an important one. If chosen, you will learn many of the skills needed to work with children such as child safety, interaction, new games, age related activities, etc.

The C.I.T. Program is designed as a two-year program for entering ninth and tenth graders. Some candidates are admitted for one year. This program has become very popular in recent years and competition for our few available openings has been overwhelming. Take your time and fill out the enclosed application completely. It must be filled out by you, not by your parents. Be sure to list any experience you have in working with children, participation in camps, sports or clubs. Please note the swim level that you last completed. Also, give some thought to the essay question and why you want to be in the program.Send a resume if possible.

Based on your application, we will evaluate whether or not we feel you will be a good candidate for our program and an interview may be scheduled. The closing date for applying for this program is Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Interviews will only be held on Saturday March 1, 2014. Decisions will be made based upon the following criteria; application/experience/references 25%, essay 25% and interview 50%.

At Silver Lake, we tackle the high and low ropes courses, swim in our lake, play games on the ballfield, sing songs around the campfire, meet lifelong friends, and strengthen our relationship with God.

Registration for Summer 2015 opens Jan. 15, 2015, at Our Camp Website Link: www.silverlakect.org.

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: To ensure your child has the best experience possible, the Director, Tim Hughes, and your dean (program leader) need to be aware in advance of any physical, emotional, or behavioral needs a child may have. While we are not equipped to handle every differently abled conferee, we will do our best to offer special support to as many children as we can. If you have questions about the camp's ability to support your child, please contact the Directors (timh[AT]ctucc.org) before registering. All information shared will be kept confidential. When registering, please include all relevant information.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:

CAMP FACILITIES: We have 13 summer cabins and 5 year-round retreat lodges, a large summer social hall and a smaller winter dining hall, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, high and low ropes courses, swimming and boating on our pond, two outdoor chapels, a labyrinth, five outdoor fire pits, large ballfield.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Silver Lake Conference Center has been welcoming conferees (campers) for a week of life-changing, community-building adventure in God's Backyard since 1957. Summer camp is open to young people in grades 4 though 12. Our conferences cover a broad range of interests and activities, from musical theater to poetry to high-energy games to sailing and canoeing. See individual conference descriptions for more information. Our week-long conferences have offered "once-in-a-lifetime experiences, over and over" to several generations of youth, helping to shape future leaders and spirited community-builders everywhere.

Each week during the summer we host five conferences for different age groups with different themes. The theme of the conference helps to shape some of the activities for the week. For example, Silver Lake's Funniest Videos will spend some time writing, shooting, and editing short films. Biking North will go on biking adventures outside of Silver Lake.

While a lot of the group's activity will center on the conference's theme, all conferences are camp experiences first: You will live at camp, eat in the social hall with the other conferences, swim in the lake, check out the high and low ropes courses, dig around in the garden, or sit around a campfire. Also, each conference takes turns leading all-camp worship one night of the week.

Silver Lake has become a sacred place to so many people, young and old. We invite you to come away from the busyness of everyday life and find out what is so special about this ministry of God's love.

Silver Lake welcomes church groups, youth groups, schools, non-profits and businesses during the Fall, Winter, and Spring.
