CAMP FACILITIES: Our camp features four adorable bunkhouse cabins that have central air & heat. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Lantern Creek promotes girl empowerment activities that are designed to help every camper become a modern Renaissance girl. We have classes in everything from painting to tire-changing, fine art to Archery. We believe she should have the chance to do it all, or at least try it for herself. We’ve thrown out the traditional rules of what every “well-rounded” girl should do or learn or know.

Our goal: to help her make her art, find her voice, discover her path and learn some emotional and life skills along the way. That’s why our programming spans everything from painting to technical theater to singing to tire-changing and working with power tools. We believe she can do it all, or at least have the chance to try every bit of it for herself.

We focus on teaching creative and critical thinking skills while allowing every camper to just be herself. All of our activities, from art and theater to ropes and canoeing, are open to all skill and experience levels and are the perfect vehicle for fostering self-confidence, self-esteem and leadership.

Camp Lantern Creek is unique in our dedication to camper-centered learning. We put campers first. We are focused on the camper’s needs, abilities, interests and learning styles. Our activities and our leadership program acknowledge camper voice as central to the learning process for every camper. Camp Lantern Creek girls are encouraged to be active, responsible participants in shaping their camp experience. We believe outdoor play is important as well, with a ropes course, pool, lake and multi-story water slide. A camper might spend part of her morning making pop art, the other half in a canoe, and the afternoon in “Rosie’s Riveters,” a class designed to teach girls how to use real-world tools.

Our mission is to create and sustain a magical environment where campers try new things every day while making lifelong friendships.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We have a national class leadership program that begins with rising 9th graders and proceeds through the high school year. We have intentionally developed training that lends itself extremely well to college and job applications, as well as rounding out real-world skills.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Road Less Traveled as an organization was founded by Jim and Donna Stein in 1991, and has been successfully running safe, exciting, life-changing trips for teens ever since. Both Jim and Donna are still the current directors, and are integrally involved in every single aspect of the company. In the summer, they are on call 24/7, available both to parents as well as to our leaders in the field.

We are an ACA accredited organization with an impeccable track record. We believe in the process of accreditation. It allows us to compare our standards to other professionals in the industry. Our accreditation allows us to follow specific standards related to leader screening including use of application forms, reference checks, personal interviews, work history review, and background checks.

Many years ago, we were the first company serving young adults to require that all leaders have a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) medical certification. WFR training is far more advanced than standard first aid or wilderness first aid. In addition to this certification, we carry extensive first aid kits on all of our programs that include antibiotics and epinephrine. Contents, protocols, and standing orders are reviewed and updated every year by our Medical Director who is an MD.

Since our inception, RLT has been on the cutting edge of technological advances in communication. We began carrying Iridium satellite phones on all of our programs as soon as they were available. Today we continue to carry the latest in emergency communication systems. According to geographic location, programs are equipped with satellite phones, ground-to-air radios, and/or cellular phones providing the possibility of 24-hour access to medical help in case of emergency.

CAMP LOCATION: Located on Guadalupe River's beautiful South Fork, 85 miles northwest of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country. We are 2,000 feet above sea level, so our nights are cool. Our nearest town of size is Kerrville, Texas

CAMP FACILITIES: When "The Heart" was first built, it was a resort hotel, so all our "tepees" have central air-conditioning. Campers under 12 live in the original hotel, 4-5 girls per room with a counselor, indoor plumbing. Older girls live in dormitory-style "tepees" with 10-12 girls and 2-3 counselors per room, indoor plumbing. All bunk beds are twin size.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Heart O' the Hills has been a summer camp for girls since 1953. Director Jane Ragsdale was a camper herself who always wanted to run a camp. She became program director when she was 21, and after 12 summers in that role, became director. 2015 was her 50th consecutive summer to be at camp in some capacity.

We offer two- and four-week sessions. All campers are asked to take Red Cross swim lessons, field sports and horseback riding. There is a list of some 50 electives that campers can choose from to round out their schedules, so there is something for everyone--from the most athletic to the most creative. The emphasis is on learning new skills in a fun environment.

New campers draw from a hat to determine tribe affiliation. The friendly competitive spirit of the tribes are infectious!

Campers leave their electronics at home and learn to live and relate to each other the old fashioned way.

Counselors arrive a minimum of one week before campers to take skills certification courses and learn all about how The Heart operates.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Heart LITes are too old to be campers but haven't had a year of college, so don't qualify to be counselors. They may apply to come as volunteers.

Havana has a hugely diverse music scene, reflecting the generations of migrants and slaves brought here, each with their own musical culture. BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Charis Hills is a Christian special needs, recreational summer camp helping children with learning differences build confidence and find success. We serve campers ages 7-18. We welcome campers with ADHD, Learning Disabilities, speech/language and hearing impairment, emotional/behavioral challenges including high functioning Autism and Asperger's. Camp is a great place to teach social skills. Campers also receive academic instruction for one activity period each day. Located one hour from the DFW area.

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: Charis Hills is a Christian residential, recreational and educational summer camp serving campers 7-18 with HF autism and other learning differences. Campers 'play with a purpose' and can choose from 25 different activities. Our well-trained staff work on social skills with campers throughout the program, but focus on specific selected social/emotional goals. We have eight, week-long sessions.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Music/Band, Theater, Video/Filmmaking/Photography, Fine Arts/Crafts, Academics, Dance, Swimming, Waterfront/Aquatics, Horses/Equestrian, and more. We Focus On Social Skills Throughout Our Program.

CAMP LOCATION: Charis (karis) Hills is an hour West of the Texas Metroplex (DFW area). Located in the beautiful Crosstimbers of North Texas on 100 acres of rolling hills. All cabins and other facilities are air-conditioned.

CAMP FACILITIES: 8 cabins that sleep 12 with bunk beds, three sinks, two showers and two toilets in each cabin. Pavilions, lake, 100 foot water slide, riding arena, and play areas. Ample outdoor recreation areas!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The program is designed to specifically meet the needs of the children we serve. Our goals are to teach the Bible in a way that allow our population to "get it", to provide an atmosphere that is uplifting and encouraging, to introduce campers to activities that will provide lifelong hobbies and recreational interests, and to provide campers with opportunities for social interaction with others who share similar issues in life. Chairs is a Greek word for GRACE or ACCEPTANCE

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We have a one week Christ Servant Program during Session 8 for previous campers. This program is by invitation only.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Contact Charis Hills for scholarship application and information.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Family Camps are weekend long events that bring the whole family together. Adults will have the opportunity to hear a speaker on a specific topic, while the children will participate in camp recreation activities. There will also be time for whole family activities. Additionally families will be able to enjoy time around the campfire getting to know other families.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Charis Hills offers 8 one week session from June through August. These sessions can be added together for up to three weeks of summer camp fun. Charis Hills additionally holds family camp weekends each year in the fall and spring.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Charis Hills is a non-denominational independent Christian camp. All are welcome! We do teach basic Christian principles but do not enter into denominational differences. Many who attend are not "churched" for multiple reasons. The founders are both masters level teachers with experience dealing with many different disabilities, some, for more years than they care to admit. This camp was built and program designed specifically to serve this population. We try to meet the campers where they are in their journey. We are "drumming to the beat of a different marcher". References are certainly available!
