Prospective campers should have at least one year of lessons on their chosen instrument, or one year of experience in a school orchestra, band or choir program. Campers attend lessons, sing in the chorus, play in large and small ensembles, act in musical theater, take classes, and, of course, have ample time for hanging out and having fun. Evening activities include capture the flag, a dance, outside speakers, visits to the local pool, and other fun activities. Both students and staff perform at weekly recitals and on weekend concerts.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Music/Band, Musical Theater, Theater, and more. Music Theory, Composition, Jazz, Street Band, Chamber Music

CAMP LOCATION: We are located on the campus of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana.

CAMP FACILITIES: Camp activities take place primarily in the new performing arts center, which includes a beautiful recital hall, dozens of classrooms and practice rooms and well as other rehearsal spaces and studios. Campers and staff stay in one of the dorm halls opposite the PAC. All facilities are air-conditioned.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Campers at FMC can be involved in a wide variety of activities. Everyone receives two private lessons every week; students can opt to have both lessons on one instrument or study two different instruments while at camp. Each camper has a block dedicated to coached practice time every day. Students who play band or orchestra instruments play with their respective large ensembles and some also play in a chamber group, an ensemble of 2-5 people, which is also coached by a faculty member. In addition, all campers sing in the choir and are somehow involved in the production of a musical. Campers also get to choose 1-3 classes that can range from music theory to jazz band to composition and even acting.

The faculty at FMC are nothing short of fantastic. Many of the teaching staff have master's and doctoral degrees from amazing music schools such as Juilliard, University of Michigan, the Manhattan School, University of Texas, and others. Each staff member also has years of teaching experience.

As you can see, the range of musical opportunity at FMC is enormous. However, what brings campers back year after year are the friendships they make at camp. FMC prides itself on being a radically inclusive and caring community. Campers often blossom at FMC just from being in a community where kindness reigns. One example of such community that is especially poignant is that campers are all required to perform a solo on a recital at some point during camp. For many campers, this is their first experience of such a performance. During student recitals, the campers in the audience greet each perform with enthusiastic applause, cheers, and often standing ovations, regardless of whether the piece performed was a long, virtuosic piece or a short, sweet tune. Support for everyone's musical development is ever present.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: No one should rule out the possibility of attending FMC because of cost. Scholarships are available, based on financial need.

To apply for a scholarship, include with your camp application:
--a statement about your family's financial situation
--a specific amount that would make your attendance possible

You may either add this information in the "comments" section of the application or send a separate email. No other documentation, such as a tax return, is required. We will do all we can to make your attendance possible.
It is important to apply early if you are requesting financial aid.

Assistance will be determined on a sliding scale basis. To determine whether your family qualifies for financial aid, the parent, guardian or adult student must provide our office with a copy of income tax return for the previous year, pay stubs for the last two months and/or a social security benefit statement. In addition, an optional payment plan is available, depending on the family's need. Our goal is to provide classes to students in need, who might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy fine arts classes.

To schedule an appointment or to submit materials for approval, please contact the Mooresville Arts Partnership at 317-437-0102.
