BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Theater arts camps for adults, 16 and over, with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Camps are 2 hours a day for a 5-day week and conclude with a final performance!

Theater Camp
June 20-24 | 11am – 1pm
“Make ‘Em Laugh!“
Who doesn’t love a good laugh? And that’s exactly what this class will do as we explore various elements of comedy and improvisation together. From Improv games, to stand up, to parody, there’s something for everyone! As an Ensemble, we’ll work together to cultivate an original variety show that will be performed on our final day of class. “Welcome to Comedy Improv, where everything is made up and the points don’t matter!”
Dance Camp
June 6-10 | 1pm – 3pm
“Movie Musical Dancing!“
Want to dance like your favorite movie musical stars? Each day will focus on a different movie dance style like “The Greatest Showman”, “Singing in the Rain”, and “Aladdin”. We’ll learn the basic moves from their dance styles and then dance to our favorite songs. By the end of the week, we’ll be dancing like the stars!
Music Camp
July 11-15| 1pm – 3pm
“STOMP!“
Come experience rhythm and percussion as never before as we learn and create rhythmic combinations with movement while utilizing items from everyday life and put them together into a real Stomp-inspired performance!
Musical Theater Camp
August 8-12 | 11am – 1pm
“Award-Winning Modern Musicals“
Become a “triple threat” by participating in this class which explores material from the award-winning musicals of the 21st Century (such as Wicked, Hamilton, Newsies, Spongebob, and Encanto). This camp is perfect for students looking to hone their acting, singing, and dance skills or for students who are interested in participating in Backlight’s Theatre 1 Program.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Music/Band, Musical Theater, Theater, Dance, and more.
CAMP LOCATION: Located just off I-65 on the Brentwood side of Cool Springs in the dance studio of Southern Academy of Irish Dance.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Backlight Productions provides opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to gain education in the arts and perform significant roles in integrated performances, enabling them to enhance their social skills through artistic expression and grow in confidence both on and off the stage.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Backlight offers classes in music, theater and dance for artists of all ranges of abilities. Seasons run from September-May and registration for all classes open during the summer.
